Cancellations and postponements of WordCamps around the globe have spread like a wildfire during the past few weeks during the Corona pandemic.
Now the organizers of the largest WordPress event of the year the WordCamp US 2020 have decided that WordCamp US 2020 goes online!
Thereby turning the event into an online WordCamp – and rightly so…
The Corona pandemic has had a deadly impact on the world with many deaths and seriously ill persons all over the world.
The Corona pandemic has led to authorities either banning large live events or strongly recommending cancellations.
Most organizers have been aware and responsible to the pandemic situation and towards the recommendations issued by governments and health organizations.
WordCamp US 2020 goes online
The USA is particularly hard hit by the Corona epidemic.
As a consequence WordCamp US 2020 organizers have decided to turn the live person-to-person event into an online WordCamp conference.
Like in the cases of other WordPress events and venues the organizers of the WordCamp US 2020 have been forced to make some tough decisions about their venue.
WordCamp US 2020 was originally planned as a live event from October 27th 2020 to October 29th 2020 in St. Louis in Missouri, USA.
On the WordCamp US 2020 website the organizers inform the public about their decision to transform WordCamp US 2020 to an online event:
For many weeks now, the WCUS organizing team has been working with WordCamp Central and local health authorities to try to make sense of the current COVID-19 pandemic and what it means for our event in St. Louis this October.
Throughout this, we have held the longterm health and safety of the WordPress community as the highest priority of our event.
To move forward in a way that honors what is best for our community – both locally and globally – we have made the hard choice to convert WordCamp US 2020 to an online only event.
